WHAT IS SOFTPATENT.COM? SoftPatent.com is a free service that generates meta information for patent claim sets.  The service is non-commercial and non-profit.   No fees are charged.  No private user data is collected or sold.   The service is provided by Michael Guntersdorfer.

While this service accesses the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) web site in compliance with USPTO terms, this is not a service provided by the USPTO.   The terms of use for USPTO online databases read:

The USPTO databases are intended for use by the general public. [...] Individuals, companies, IP addresses, or blocks of IP addresses who, in effect, deny service to the general public by generating unusually high numbers of daily database accesses (searches, pages, or hits), whether generated manually or in an automated fashion, may be denied access to these servers without notice.

SoftPatent.com's server does not access USPTO databases.  Instead, users of SoftPatent.com run a java script program, which is downloaded automatically when accessing the site, to access and then analyze patents that the user downloads directly from the USPTO web site as an individual.  Therefore, no high access numbers are generated by the SoftPatent.com IP address.
